This is a drawing I did of a bantam hen with three chicks. I did it in Prismacolor colored pencils. I chose this picture because I really wanted to draw a feathered animal and in this specific picture I like angle the picture was taken. Most drawings are level with the animal but instead this one is slightly above and in my opinion gives better composition.
Getting the colors just right was the hardest part of this piece. I had to blend several colors to match the hen's feathers. And in the original picture the chicks had little to no shadows and we're almost solid white. In the picture they were sitting on a mixture of hay, green grass, and dead leaves. I was not up for that much of a challenge so I changed the ground to dirt with a few pieces of hay so that it would give it some contrast and better composition.
